Elite-XC Is Quality
Since Aflliction came out of the gate with guns blazing the promotion has been hailed by the hardcores as the second coming of Christ. It seems that the Red Headed Step child of MMA promotions, Elite-XC, has been largely ignored. This past Saturday we saw a great production and a showcase of some amazing talent on the EliteXC Saturday Night Fights. I thouroghly enjoyed the broadcast and was excited about most of the matches on the card. My only gripe would be Justin Eilers getting a crack at the EXC belt. I was expecting the welterweight title fight to be a war, but Jake Shields is just on another level. This is why interpromotional fights are the thing dreams are made of to fans of this sport. As of right now the UFC wont play ball with any company they dont own, so that is something that will happen a long time down the road. In the meantime Elite continues to grow and hopefully make some money in the process so that they have something to offer in terms of interpromotion. A new female star was born in Cyborg Santos who fights just like her male Chute Boxe teammates. I cant wait to see her in action again, even if they dont let her fight Carano on the next SNF in October they should have her on the card for sure. This broadcast was way better than the last edition, but unfortunately had only half the audience. The production values and the pace they kept this time around showed what SNF could be, and I hope that we get to see more from them.

Mendoza and Lacy Go for Broke on WNF
Jeff Lacey and Epi Mendoza went at it for 10 rounds last night on wednsday night fights on ESPN. it was a slugfest that saw both fighters rocked, but in the end Lacey landed the decision.
Heavyweights!
Micheal Rome over at Bloody Elbow echo's my sentiments exactly in that Affliction should focus mainly on the HW division. Check the article here!

(Leben after a mess hall dinner with his new boyfriend...Ahh new love)
MMAmania Has the scoop:
His release is set for May 27, 2008 (he gets credit for time already served), which gives him only 12 days until his scheduled showdown with Michael Bisping at UFC 85: “Bedlam” at the O2 Arena in London, England, on June 7.
Ouch! Hopefully he can pull it off with such a short time out of the bing.

"The Hex" is coming !

The IFL has announced that there will be a new fighting surface introduced at the next show called "The Hex" Is it going to be as revolutionary as the "Yamma" was? One can only hope. From MMAontap:
The night will also feature the world debut of “The HEX”, the IFL’s brand new six-sided ring. This is the future fighting surface for all of MMA. To introduce this new era in fighting, the IFL Summer Throwdown fight card will present the most explosive Mixed Martial Arts action the East Coast has ever seen!
In addition to several title defenses between IFL champions and top young talent, a group of Eastern European superstars will clash and other groundbreaking fights will be announced.
The future fighting surface of all MMA? It sounds like the ring wil have six sides instead of 4. Groundbreaking

Kimbo Vs. Chuck Is On!!!

May 31st Iceman and Slice go head to head during EliteXC's CBS debut. UFC has thrown a little piss in the CBS punch by airiung some free stuff on Spike. From teh Junkie:
"EliteXC: PRIMETIME" airs from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT, and Spike TV's homage to Liddell begins at 8 p.m. ET/PT and runs for three hours.
The night includes the premiere of "Ultimate Iceman: Chuck Liddell," an hour-long documentary that chronicles the career of the UFC's former light heavyweight champion both in and out of the cage.
Spike TV will follow with a "Liddell vs. Silva: UFC Unleashed Special Edition" that includes Liddell's December 2007 main-event fight with Wanderlei Silva. It'll be the first time the UFC 79 fight airs on cable TV.
The night actually kicks off with "Ultimate Knockouts 4," which features Liddell's most memorable bouts.
CBS, meanwhile, will run its first "Saturday Night Fights" event the same night. Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson and James Thompson headline the event, and EliteXC middleweight champ Robbie Lawler defends his title against Scott Smith.

UFC Champs Open Training Center In Miami

Silva and Minotauro open a training academy in Miami Florida. According to Minotauro:
The sport is growing a lot here. It’s a dream of ours to open an academy here (in Miami). This is a good area and the weather’s really good. This is the right time and right place, this is the sport’s greatest moment so far in America
He also added off the record that there is more sweet poon per capita in Miami than any other place in America. Hmm..
The gym opens on the 16th, so if your in the area and want your ass handed to you by the best in the biz... GET TO IT!

Elite XC Flexing That CBS Muscle?

It seems Nick Diaz who was rumored to have been fighting in the next installment of Dream, has been pulled from the event by Gary Shaw and Elite XC. This in addition to the news that they banned Affliction clothing from their events seems to indicate they are getting a little more strict now that they have the TV platform.

Tito Ortiz's Last Stand!

(Take that you pricks!)
Tito is funny, in his farewell from the UFC fight against Lyoto Machida Ortiz will be adorning the ex-UFC sponser Mickeys Malt Liquor. This just after Dana and co. have just dropped them and went with Bud Light. Mickeys is owned by Miller, Budweiser's biggest competitor. It is just one more slap in the face to Dana before he hits the road. According to MMA Junkie the deal with Mickeys icludes:
Mickey's will develop promotions, events, and packaging featuring Ortiz. Mickey's will also work alongside Ortiz's Team Punishment clothing brand for cross-promotional opportunities.
Cheers!
Big up Teh Junkie
